Why is the Flag facing the wrong way?

Most people have the idea in their head that the union of stars should always be on the left.  When a decal is placed on a vehicle, the proper flag etiquette would be to  follow the same guidelines as you would on the right arm of a military uniform.  The union of stars should always be faced toward the front of the vehicle signifying moving forward and not retreating as if you were carrying the flag. 

This is why our driver side flag has the stars to the left, and the passenger side has them to right.
